The Library is pleased to announce that McGill students, faculty and staff can now take advantage of an expanded Terrace Pickup Service for print books not available electronically or through the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS). Phase two of this service provides access to books housed in the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex (Humanities, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering), Nahum Gelber Law Library, the Islamic Studies Library and the Marvin Duchow Music Library. Materials from other branches are not available at this time.
The McGill library is offering an innovative activity to welcome new, current, and former McGillians back to campus, even if only in spirit. We hope to draw everyone back from afar with the aid of their computers: to entice them with the comfort of beloved spaces, the feel of delving into the library’s vast collections, and the irresistible pull of a mystery.
Beginning the week of August 3rd, McGill Library will resume digitization of our rare and special collections on a small scale. The initial rollout of this service prioritizes the McGill community as it prepares for fall 2020 virtual teaching. McGill students, faculty, and staff may place requests using the on-demand digitization form.
As you may know, McGill Library has partnered with the Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI) and a coalition of 17 other Quebec universities to implement a unified catalogue that rolled out on July 8, 2020. Learn more here.

McGill Library is partnering with the Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI) and a coalition of 17 other Quebec universities to provide the Quebec scholarly community with access to three digital platforms. This includes a unified catalogue or Library Shared Services Platform (SSP) that will provide access to more than 20 million documents across the 18 collections and is supported by OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WorldCat).
This week, McGill Library staff members will begin to check-in items that have been returned during the closure period. In order to begin this process, the McGill Library staff members will cancel all holds and requests placed on McGill items.
Users who have placed a hold on a returned item will get a notice indicating that their hold has been cancelled.
Please note that users will be able to place new holds once the Library is open and items can be made accessible for browsing.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
New in WorldCat Discovery: Refreshed My Account interface gives library users an enhanced experience
We hope you like the new My Account experience in WorldCat Discovery - it was developed with accessibility and responsive design in mind. The new interface complies with WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines.
Similar to the former My Account page, library users will now see a list of checked out items, hold requests, and outstanding fees. The Checked Out tab now includes the exact date and time when an item is due as well as the ability to select multiple items to renew at once.
Please note that virtual reference services will not be available on Wednesday, June 24 and Wednesday, July 1 in observance of La fête nationale/Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day and Canada Day respectively.
