Dr Ernesto Schiffrin was the recipient of the International Society of Hypertension ISH Franz Volhard Award and Lectureship for Outstanding Research for 2021 in recognition of his ground-breaking research on the role of vascular remodeling and role of endothelin, angiotensin II, aldosterone, inflammation and T regulatory lymphocytes in hypertension.

Dr Louise Pilote was awarded the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) Award of Excellence for Research in Cardiovascular Health and Disease in Women for 2021 in recognition for her outstanding scientific achievements. This award recognizes her exceptional work in the development of the novel methodologies for measuring gender to evaluate its impact on women’s heart health, in demonstrating a crucial link between heart disease and gender, as well as her pioneering work in comparative effectiveness research using Big Data.

We are delighted to announce that Dr Suzanne Morin accepted the position of MUHC Division Director for General Internal Medicine effective December 1st, 2020. Dr Susan Kahn was appointed to the position of Associate Chair, Research, in the McGill Department of Medicine, effective November 15, 2020. Dr Kahn will focus on capacity building in basic/clinical research, the growth in DOM research publications/impact and in research grant funding and will develop mechanisms to ensure the regular measurement and reporting on DOM research metrics. In October 2020, Dr Natalie Dayan was appointed the newly created position of Associate Chair, Wellness, in the McGill Department of Medicine, effective November 1, 2020. In the role of Associate Chair, Dr Dayan will focus on enhancing “whole person” development within the Department of Medicine. This will include programming in the areas of physician wellness, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), leadership development and mentorship.

In October 2020, Dr Emily McDonald was appointed to the newly created position of Associate Chair, Quality and Safety, in the McGill Department of Medicine, effective November 1, 2020. Dr McDonald will focus on capacity building in Quality and Safety scholarship in close collaboration with internal and external Quality and Patient Safety programs to deliver on this important academic endeavor.

In September 2020, Dr Isabelle Malhamé was elected the first Early Career Representative on the newly formed Department of Medicine Governing Council. Dr Malhamé was recruited to the Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine as Assistant Professor in 2019. While in residency, Dr Malhamé was Co-chief, General Internal Medicine resident at McGill and served as a resident representative on the Continuing Professional Education committee of the Association des Spécialistes en Médecine Interne du Québec.
