Smaller but more-frequent promotions are key to minimising the high turnover of IT professionals, says Alain Pinsonneault of McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management.
IT professionals are far less likely to leave a company when their chances of promotion are higher, yet businesses cut back on these to avoid the costs of large salary increases. Therefore, smaller but more frequent promotions increase employee retention whilst keeping costs low.

When the Chicago Cubs defeated Cleveland in Game 7 of an epic World Series in the wee hours of Thursday morning, the celebrations reverberated all the way north of the border to the campus of McGill University in Montreal. Only three days after McGill captured its third consecutive national championship in the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association, Shiraz Rehman, an assistant general manager with the Cubs, became the first McGill grad to earn a World Series championship ring.

MBAs have become diversified products, catering to segmented clientele’s needs. Upon exploring whether a two-year MBA program is superior to a one-year program, there is, unfortunately, no simple answer to suit all circumstances.
In a two-year MBA program, such as that available from the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, this issue is actually less problematic. Specifically, students complete internships first and are then provided with additional opportunities to engage with employers the following autumn.

In recent years, there has been a noticeable push in many developed nations for more girls to study maths and science at school in order to broaden their representation in fields such as engineering. Yet these efforts are not as fruitful as many believe. In fact, the young women who are successfully attracted to engineering are leaving the field faster than their male counterparts.

Rogers Communications Deputy Chairman Edward Rogers is making his presence felt at the company bearing his family name, after the ousting of Guy Laurence.
“You can’t have a company of Rogers’ size moving forward in a competitive marketplace without existing leadership filling the void,” management expert Karl Moore, a professor at McGill University, told BNN in an interview. "You’re not just going to keep the chair warm for that length of time."

Gabriel Werkhaizer may have managed multimillion-dollar budgets in his hometown of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, but it was only this year that he learned how to say some financial words in English, such as “accruals.” The 30-year-old moved to Montreal last year with his wife and two-year-old daughter to earn his MBA degree at McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management.
