The objective of my research project is to develop a novel thermoplastic composite filament for 3D printing and apply an advanced real-time control on the filament production process to assess the effects of the process parameters on filament quality. Materials that are used in aerospace applications should meet strict requirements such as high flame retardancy and low toxicity. The best material for this application is selected by a systematic material selection approach based on MCDM methods. After conducting the relevant characterizations, the top material is processed through a twin-screw extruder to produce a filament with a diameter of 1.75 mm. The filament extrusion process will be optimized to achieve a filament with good mechanical properties and printability.
