New partnership provides opportunities for current and aspiring legal translators to enhance their skills and meet the growing demand for qualified legal translators in Canada

On July 15, 2021, the McGill School of Continuing Studies and the Translation Bureau of Canada finalized an agreement that aims to reinforce standards of excellence in the field of translation and better prepare the next generation of legal translators in Canada.

As part of the partnership, the Translation Bureau will offer internships to graduate students of the McGill Graduate Diploma in Legal Translation each semester to enable them to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice and gain real-world experience with the country’s largest employer of professional translators. Additionally, thanks to the partnership, employees of the Translation Bureau will be exempt from the entrance exam normally required for admission into the program, allowing them easier access to this cutting-edge diploma.

To promote their shared commitment to innovating and preparing the workforce of the future, the McGill School of Continuing Studies and the Translation Bureau will now jointly participate in activities to help students discover and better understand the professional realities of this critical field.

The only program of its kind in North America, McGill’s Graduate Diploma in Legal Translation is a fully online program designed to train the next generation of Canadian legal translators and jurilinguists. Combined with McGill’s highly qualified instructors, a leading-edge curriculum, and a convenient online format, this new partnership will provide our students with top-tier legal translation training and real-word experiences for years to come.
