Dear SCS Learners,

Thank you very much for joining me last week for our very first virtual townhall. I very much appreciated all the good questions and suggestions you shared with us. We may not yet have answers to all of them, but please know that we are working as fast as possible to address them all. For those of you unable to attend, we have recorded the session and it is available here.

Please also remember that if you have technical difficulties in continuing to study remotely, you should review our SCS Covid-19 website page for contact information for technical support.

For any other concerns, please contact Client Services (see below) so that we can address your concerns.

The most important information for you to remember is the following:

Please consult the SCS COVID19 website for student FAQs and resources to help you plan your studies, and for answers to many of your questions.

  • You may also go to AskMcGill for McGill University’s student information.
  • For questions about S/U or other special academic measures for the Winter Term 2020, please consult McGill University’s Teaching and Learning Academic Measures website. Note that each Faculty has discretion to exempt certain courses from the S/U option. SCS will make the S/U option available for as many courses as possible. The SCS policy will shortly be posted to the SCS Student Resources Page.

Client Services should be your first point of contact for most questions, especially on registration, admissions, financial aid, health insurance, immigration issues, and academic advising:

  • For any inquiries regarding registrations, your student record, general  inquiries, and requests to speak to an academic advisor, contact  info.conted [at] mcgill.ca (Client Services) , Tel : +1 514-398-6200.
  • For any inquiries regarding the status of your application or documents submission, please contact admissions.conted [at] mcgill.ca
  • For career advice, please contact SCS’s Career Advising and Transition Services unit (CATS) at cats [at] mcgill.ca, Tel.: +1 514-398-8800 (ext. 04553).
  • Please note that everyone is working remotely. We have forwarded all telephone lines but you may be asked to leave a voicemail message or call back again, if you cannot reach someone immediately. For this reason we strongly encourage you to email us at the addresses above.
  • During the period of April 4 to May 1, 2020 please note the following change in hours of operations:
    • Monday – Thursday: 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.
    • Fridays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Many of you had questions about final exams. Please note:

  • Most of our instructors have adapted their course outlines to avoid timed exams of three hours in a specific time slot. However, this is not always possible.
  • In the event that a timed exam is unavoidable, you will need to take the exam in a single sitting. You will NOT be able to interrupt the exam once you have started it.
  • In some cases, some level of flexibility will be available to accommodate students in different time zones or with personal obligations. This can include:
    • Ability to start the exam at any time within a given period;
    • Ability to select a time slot among two or more scheduling options.
  • To prevent conflicts, these options will include the time slot during which the exam was originally scheduled
  • Exam scheduling details for each course will be announced by your instructor in myCourses or via email.
  • Note that some instructors have chosen to cancel the final exam and replace it with another assignment. In addition, some exams may have been shortened to two hours.

For those of you planning to graduate this year, please know that your academic record will still reflect your graduation, even if we cannot have an in-person convocation ceremony this summer. We are doing our best to identify suitable alternatives and will keep you posted.

Thank you!
