Operations Management

Brian Smith joined the Faculty of Management at McGill University in 1980. Dr. Smith currently teaches Statistics and Operations Research, and he has been instrumental in coordinating the undergraduate statistics program. He also taught for several years at McGill's Center for Continuing Education in the Management Graduate Division.

Dr. Smith recently retired from Dawson College after twenty-seven years as a professor in the Department of Mathematics, where he served on many departmental and institutional committees, including a period as Chairman of the Department.

Brian Smith is Chair of the Technology in Mathematics Education (TiME) Committee of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC). He is also an active member of the Mathematical Association of America and has recently been appointed a member of CCIME, the Committee on Computers in Mathematics Education. Dr. Smith is a member of the NASA-AMATYC-NSF Project Coalition, and he has worked with NASA scientists in developing educational materials based on aerospace applications. The materials developed in the first year of the project will be published in Spring1999.

Dr. Smith has recently published a text on teaching mathematics with graphing calculators, and is a frequent contributor at mathematical conferences, where he presents papers and workshops. His current teaching and research interests include the effective use of technology and Distance Learning in teaching Statistics.

Dr. Smith's business consulting experience includes statistical analysis and database management. He has also collaborated with medical researchers in the analysis and interpretation of medical data.
