Still room for improvement for empowering women in finance

Professor Francesca Carrieri sits down with La Presse to talk about the hurdles that women in finance still face and the initiatives in place at the Desautels Faculty of Management to improve this reality.

For example, the Faculty has launched a task force that aims to show undergraduate women that a career in finance is indeed a viable path through mentorship and internship opportunities.

Desautels joins UN’s PRME initiative

The Desautels Faculty of Management has become a member of the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative.  The faculty joins leading business and management schools from across the globe in working towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

McGill-Concordia Solar Decathlon team gets $250,000 boost from Hydro-Quebec

TeamMTL, the joint McGill-Concordia team developing the Deep Performance Dwelling for the Solar Decathlon China, has just received $250,000 from Hydro-Quebec to help the team get to the competition in 2018. The money will be used to finish construction of the team’s entry, which is a row-house designed to be net-zero energy and sustainably built, yet affordable and comfortable to live in.

Quebec’s hottest new microbrewery works local angle

New Deal Brewing Co. co-owner Daleyne Guay (EMBA’2016) says that, over the past five years, microbews have risen to 8.9% of the Quebec market, while the majors have lost 1% per year and imports have taken up the space in-between. Within this context, Mr. Guay is on a mission to make you to reach for one of his Boldwin beers before you grab that next Stella Artois.

McGill lands on Corporate Knights’ Future 40 list

Now in its fourth edition, Corporate Knights’ Future 40 ranking is a yearly roundup of companies and organizations that are transitioning towards a low-carbon future. The list heavily reflects Ontario-based companies and utilities, but there is also a lot of representation from Canada’s mining sector and medium-sized oil and gas producers, all of which are pivoting towards greater sustainability in their production processes.

Montreal team nets $50,000 for its green housing design

A joint McGill-Concordia effort has won a $50,000 federal grant to bring its innovative row-house design to the International Solar Decathlon in China next year. TeamMTL’s design takes aim at the growing affordable-urban-housing crisis, successfully marrying energy efficiency and sustainability with comfort and affordability.

Desautels recognized for innovative business education project

McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management is one of three Canadian institutions honoured by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business in its 2017 Innovations That Inspire list. All together, the accreditation body recognized 35 schools worldwide across three categories: Engagement Across Disciplines, Engagement with Business and Engaging a Diverse community.

On March 17-18, 2016, Yalmaz Siddiqui, BCom '92 and Senior Director of Sustainability for Office Depot Inc. visited his alma mater to impart his knowledge and lessons learned through leading global sustainability efforts. Mr. Siddiqui spoke in several Desautels classes, providing insight on understanding the B2B Green Marketing and Purchasing Landscape to strategies for stakeholder engagement and community consultation when introducing sustainability into operations.

MBA students in Canada tackle sustainability to get a competitive edge

McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management ranked second in the latest list, which was released in October 2015, while the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business was fifth. Those Canadian universities all outranked some big name American schools, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
