McGill scholars receive $190,000 to expand impact of research in the social sciences and humanities

Seven McGill University researchers have been awarded over $190,000 in Connection Grants by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The awards are part of $1.7 million in federal funding invested in 54 projects nationwide. 

The Connection Grants program aims to show the potential of social sciences and humanities research to influence, benefit, and impact society, within and beyond post-secondary institutions. Grants can be used to support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term knowledge mobilization initiatives, which can often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects. 

McGill’s funded projects are: 

Developing an International Society for Social-Ecological Systems 
Elena Bennett, Professor, Department of Natural Resource Sciences and McGill School of Environment, and Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Sustainability Science 
$24,660 from SSHRC 

Timbre and orchestration in popular song 
Nicole Biamonte, Associate Professor, Schulich School of Music 
$21,230 from SSHRC 

Strengthening the Participation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Governance Processes: Obstacles and Opportunities 
Megan Bradley, Associate Professor and William Dawson Scholar, Department of Political Science and Director of the Institute for the Study of International Development 
$49,900 from SSHRC 

Advancing Racial and Ethnic Health Equity: Strategies for Data Collection and Policy Action in Latin America
