Prof. Ratna Ghosh, alumnus Patrick Elbaz honoured at Order of Excellence in Education in Quebec (OEE) ceremony
Ratna Ghosh, of our Department of Integrated Studies in Education, has been named as a Membre émérite of the Order of Excellence in Education in Quebec (OEE). Prof. Ghosh received the medal at a ceremony in Quebec City on Friday, June 15th.
Prof. Ghosh has been appointed by the two ministries for a three-year term to serve on the 10-person jury to select members of the Order of Excellence in Education in Quebec (OEE). The Order is for all levels of education and has three ranks: Membre Émérite (Eminent Member), Membre Distingué (Distinguished Member) and Membre (Member).
Among the recipients of the OEE were several distinguished educators at the University, CEGEP and school levels. Education alumnus Patrick Elbaz (B.Ed., Physical Education, 1989; M.Ed., Educational Administration, 1994), currently a science teacher at Herzliah High School, became a Member of the Order.
Ratna Ghosh, Distinguished James McGill Professor and William C. MacDonald Professor in our Department of Integrated Studies in Education, was Dean of Education at McGill from 1998 to 2003, was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada (C.M.) in 2000, Officer of the Order of Quebec (O.Q.) in 2005, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (F.R.S.C.) in 1999. She received both the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals. She is also a Member of the European Academy of Arts, Sciences and Humanities; and a Fellow of The World Academy (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries, Social Sciences Division, in Trieste, Italy. She recently founded the Research Group PEER (Preventing Extremism through Education Research).
In May 2018 Dr. Ghosh received the Order of Montreal.
