McGill Rocket Team

The McGill Rocket Team is made of 200+ students that are passionate about the aerospace industry. Founded in 2014, we have pursued excellence ever since and have proven ourselves to be one of the top Canadian student rocketry associations. We achieved 1st place at the Spaceport America Cup (SAC) in 2018, which is the largest international collegiate rocketry competition in the world. Since 2020, we have been developing our own fully student-developed rocket engine program, and won second place in our category in 2022, which was our first competition entry with a homegrown hybrid engine.

The team is composed of a variety of sub-teams that are responsible for different sub-systems and aspects of the projects. Whether it be in propulsion, aerostructure, avionics, recovery or in the payload sub-team, we offer enthralling projects for students with all backgrounds and all kinds of interests. The team is also very interdisciplinary, and cross-subteam interactions are always promoted to widen student's horizons. We also have a separate outreach team to maintain team image and ensure good visibility with our community.

Rocket start

The McGill Rocket Team prioritises student experience above all, and we have grown to be a major talent incubator within the Engineering Faculty. Our students go on to lead research labs, start-ups and large companies, at McGill, in Montreal, and abroad. At any given time, we have at least ten students involved with other research labs and companies.
