Biography:

Janie’s dissertation explores how Caribbean and African texts respond aesthetically in similar yet unique ways to changing historical conditions wrought by the capitalist world system in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In particular, her dissertation focuses on how minor literary forms -- the travelogue, the story cycle, oraliture and the epic --register, through a shared aesthetic, what Édouard Glissant terms “a sense of disquiet” engendered by the peripheries’ “irruption into modernity". Her work has appeared in Canadian Literature, The Canadian Journal of Native Studies, The Journal of Postcolonial Writing, and Interventions: The International Journal of Postcolonial Studies.
