Biography:

Mary Towers is a doctoral candidate at McGill University. Her dissertation, “The Salt of America: Nostalgia and its Adaptations in Twentieth-Century American Fiction and Film,” examines a tension between imagined national pasts and projected futures in the works of American authors for whom various tropes of nostalgia intersect with issues of progress, ethnicity, ideological critique, and historical memory. Further, her study traces American expressions of nostalgia throughout the 20th century by interrogating how such expressions evolve in the cinematic adaptations of literary productions.
