Summer Session 2024

May Session: May 6 to May 31 | June Session: June 3 to June 28

The Summer Session in Epidemiology and Biostatistics offers health professionals the opportunity to gain familiarity with the principles of epidemiology and biostatistics. It also offers graduate students and medical residents from McGill, and graduate students from other Quebec and Canadian universities the opportunity to acquire academic credits and thereby accelerate course work during a summer term. Courses may also be taken for a Professional Interest Certificate.

The language of instruction is English, unless otherwise stated, and students are advised that fluency in English is essential to benefit from the courses offered. However, students may submit their course assignments and examinations in French.

McGill Medical Residents

Registration for McGill Medical Residents will begin February 15, 2024.

Please follow these 4 steps:

  1. Discuss your particular needs with your Training Program Director and decide on your course selection. Please note that 3 credits per 4 week period is considered a fair load, 6 credits a heavy load.
  2. Starting February 15 (9:00 AM), register on line for your courses at www.mcgill.ca/minerva/ within the deadline dates posted on Minerva.
  3. Consult Minerva a few weeks before the starting date of your course(s). For information on course outlines please see the Courses section.
  4. Course Selection (to add or drop a course or to cancel your registration) requires written permission from your Training Program Director, as well as submitting your changes on MINERVA. This will avoid the mention of ‘Fail ’on your university transcript.

If accessing Minerva for the first time, your PIN (Personal Identification Number) is your year, month and day of birth (example: 651203 if you were born on December 3, 1965).

Medical Residents can register for a maximum of 12 credits in total and are considered Special Students at the graduate level during this period. Students who have reached the limit of 12 credits are no longer eligible for Special Student status at the graduate level.

As a Medical Resident, you will receive academic credit for any courses taken during the summer. You are expected to attend all classes, complete all assignments, and take exams. The marks you receive will be entered on your permanent McGill Transcript Record. If you do not complete a course, you will get an automatic Incomplete ‘K ’or Fail ‘F ’. Successfully completed credits may be transferred to a degree program at McGill or another university.
