Welcome to Dr. Silvia Vidal’s Lab Homepage
Dr. Vidal received her Ph.D. from Université de Genève in 1990. Subsequently, she did post-doctoral training in Dr. P. Gros's lab at McGill University. In 1995, Dr. Vidal started her career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of McGill University. From 1998 to 2003 she was an Assistant Professor and then an Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology (BMI), University of Ottawa. Since 2003 Dr. Vidal has been an Associate Professor of the Departments of Human Genetics (primary appointment), Microbiology and Immunology, and Medicine of McGill University. Dr. Vidal’s research focus has been in genetic basis and molecular pathogenesis of the host response to infection with viruses. Dr. Vidal has received generous funding from various agencies to support her research including the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR), the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Canadian Genetic Diseases Network (CGDN). During her career, Dr. Vidal has received several prestige honors and awards including Canada Research Chair in host response to viruses and Michael Smith Promising Scientist Award. Dr. Vidal is the Director of CIHR-NET for the Development of New Genetic Models of Infectious Diseases and is the leader for a team of seven research groups. Dr. Vidal has trained a number of post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and undergraduate students. Her laboratory has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers and review articles, several of them were among the high-impact journals such as
Nature Genetics, The Journal of Experimental Medicine, PLOS Pathogens and the
Journal of Immunology.
