Objectives

The IAIN Indonesia Social Equity Project builds on the relationship between the Canadian and Indonesian partners to address a major initiative in Indonesia's education sector. This is an education project in the broadest sense of the term. The transformation of the two IAINs into universities is aimed at integrating religion and science and the needs of the community. The larger objective is to create a new model for Islamic education, to meet the needs of a democratic Indonesia. The IAINs, as national institutions with networks that reach the grass roots, are catalysts in changing the way people see their world and in educating them to play a role in changing their world from within. This is key to equity and social stability. The Project supports the IAINs' role in strengthening civil society as outlined in the Objective Tree below.
