Some programs in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences offer courses with opportunities for experiential learning through projects or labs in which students design their own product or solution.
In their capstone design courses, Bioresource Engineering students apply design methods, principles, and practices to an open-ended design project. This project typically involves design project development from initial concept to a final working prototype.
Food Science students have the opportunity to take a product development course, learning how to develop new products or improve existing ones. Past students have even won international competitions with their products!
Students taking the Professional Agrology specialization will apply agronomic knowledge to address a current issue in the agri-food sector, under the supervision of a faculty member.
Some programs in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences include a practicum. Practicums involve work experience under the supervision of an experience registered or licensed professional.
Nutrition students majoring in Dietetics complete 40 weeks of practicum (also known as a stage). These weeks are sequenced throughout the program, starting in the first year.
Students completing concurrent Bachelor's degrees in Food Science & Nutritional Sciences must also participate in two 12-week stages as part of their program.
