Professional Development

In collaboration with McGill’s School of Continuing Studies (SCS), the McGill Mastercard Foundation Transitions Project also supports the transition of Mastercard Foundation Scholars/Alumni through robust skill-building and professional development training, and support.

To gauge the areas of interest of Mastercard Foundation Scholars/Alumni, we have provided a list of online professional development courses offered by McGill’s SCS. Mastercard Foundation Scholars/Alumni may review the course and apply to participate in courses of interest.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Mastercard Foundation Scholar/Alum can access ONE professional development sponsorship offered through the McGill’s School of Continuing Studies (SCS) or other organization.  

  • A current Mastercard Foundation Scholar with full-time academic obligation must discuss with their Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Advisor and obtain written approval (by email) before they submit a course interest form. The current Mastercard Foundation Scholar can only access the sponsorship in their final term of studies.

  • Once approved, the Mastercard Foundation Scholar/Alum need to pay for the costs out of their pocket and then send the invoice/receipts for reimbursements.

  • Unapproved or retroactive payments requests will not be reimbursed.

  • ONLY individual courses or training are eligible for sponsorship. The McGill Mastercard Foundation Transitions Project does not sponsor full Professional Development Certificate programs that require several course trainings. 

  • The Mastercard Foundation Scholar/Alum must complete the approved professional development course/certification within the stipulated deadline. In case the Mastercard Foundation Scholar/Alum is unable to meet the deadline, they need to re-apply for the sponsorship. Such re-application will also be subject to the policy that is in place at that time.

  • Once done with the courses/certification, the Mastercard Foundation Scholar/Alum must complete a Professional Development Course (PDC) Completion Survey.
