Science Placement Exams

  • I am a returning student and I wish to write a Science Placement Exam, am I eligible?
    • No, only newly admitted McGill students may earn a course exemption from one or more basic science courses by taking an admission placement exam before starting classes.
  • If I did not get transfer credit for a course and feel like I have enough knowledge to not have to retake the course again, what should I do?
    • If you feel confident enough to not retake the course in question but you did not have the acceptable certification to obtain transfer credit, you may write a Science Placement Exam prior to the commencement of classes. If you pass the exam, you will obtain transfer credit for the course and therefore will not be required to register for it.
  • After successfully passing my placement exam(s); will I receive transfer credit or exemption?
    • Faculty of Arts: Please visit the OASIS website.
    • Faculty of Science: You will receive an exemption with 0 credits. Please contact SOUSA for further details.
