Rates

User fees are necessary in order to cover the costs of providing access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, including instrument maintenance, certain consumables, and compressed gases and liquids. Rates for MC2 instrument use depend on user category.  If you would like to discuss a special project or collaboration, or you have questions about your bill, do not hesitate to contact us. Rates below may vary depending on work required to address clients' needs.

Magnetic resonance

Solution NMR

Training takes place in two parts.  The first part, which costs $10, includes an introduction to the autosampler instruments and structure solution via NMR.  The second part, which costs $15, covers the non-autosampler instruments and a more in-depth look at processing software.

The minimum fee for each use of a bookable NMR instrument is the minimum booking time (ten minutes).

Data processing by the NMR facility manager is charged at the same rate as operator service instrument time.

Rates for the QANUC 800 MHz instrument are set by QANUC.

All experiments are performed by the facility manager (hatem.titi [at] mcgill.ca (Hatem Titi)) - currently, no training is available for users.

Rate/Usage Category Department of Chemistry Other academic Industry
Determination of unit cell $20 $30 $80
Data collection $120 $200 $500

Service (data interpretation, report writing, etc.) $30/hr $40/hr $100/hr

Notes:

1 Data collection and structure determination charges on SCXRD will be applied regardless of sample composition (e.g. starting material etc).

Additional charges are possible for non-routine structural determination because difficult cases of structure determination and refinement require considerable extra time and effort to analyze. Weakly diffracting materials, twinning, air-sensitive crystals, or crystals with highly disordered fragments and high-solvent content often belong to this category. The users will be contacted by the facility manager if samples appear difficult.
