Internal peer review of grant applications.

Eligibility

Applicants from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences located at McGill campus or St. Mary’s Hospital are eligible for internal review through UReview. Applicants from other units have their own internal review programs.

Grant applications must have undergone internal review to be eligible for Internal Bridge Funding.

Submission Deadlines

Please visit individual funding program pages for respective submission deadlines:

  1. Login to UReview
  2. Upload your proposal. Complete submissions must be received 3 weeks prior to the granting agency deadline.
  3. Input names of 2 suggested reviewers:
    • If you have reviewers in mind, please enter their McGill email address into UReview (firstname.lastname [at] mcgill.ca).
    • If you need help identifying reviewers, please contact riac.med [at] mcgill.ca.
    • If your reviewers are external to McGill, they must be manually added to UReview (please make a request to riac.med [at] mcgill.ca).

Target Timelines

Stage Description

For Reviewers

The main objective of internal review is to improve grantsmanship and accessibility to non-experts. Therefore, potential reviewers are encouraged to accept review requests even when lacking the ideal technical expertise (unless in conflict of interest).

  • When a request for review is generated, reviewers receive an automated email asking to accept the review within 2 days of receipt. The email includes a special access link to UReview, through which reviewers login using their McGill email and password.
  • Reviewers are asked to submit feedback within 2 weeks of accepting requests via UReview. The system provides evaluation criteria for the competition in question.
    • Reviewers may also wish to meet with the applicant in-person to convey additional feedback.
  • Reviewers are asked to respond to requests and submit their feedback in a timely fashion, as the turnaround between peer review and grant submission is very tight.
  • The entire review process must be kept confidential.
