A coronal section through the lower jaw of a cow shows an ulcerated tongue overlying necrotic and inflammatory tissue in the bone beneath (arrow (A)).  Back view (B) shows skin and underlying necrotic tissue (arrow).

Osler presented this (or a similar) case with corresponding histologic slides to the Montreal Medico-Chirurgical Society on Feb. 29, 1884.
