Civil war specimen

Femur. Tubular sequestrum with a ring of smooth surfaced bone (FIG. 1) surrounding the point of amputation.

The knee joint was injured by a musket ball at North Ana River on May 22, 1864. An amputation was performed May 28, and the sequestrum was removed April 9, 1865. The patient recovered completely.
