What are the application dates for the Summer Program for International Medical Students?
Applications for the Summer Program 2025 will opened on January 20, 2025, and will remain open until June 15, 2025. However, we strongly recommend completing your payment no later than May 1, 2025, to secure your spot for the observership. Please note that observership opportunities may not be available for applications completed after May 1.

What are the costs for joining the McGill Summer Program for International Medical Students?
The program fees are $6,250 CAD per person, including an application fee of $100. Please see our Apply page for detailed fees and cancellation policy.

Does the Summer Program provide a certificate?
Yes, you will receive a McGill certificate of completion. Participants must attend a minimum of 80% of the scheduled classes to qualify for a certificate.

How many students will be in the program?
The program’s maximum capacity is 40 students.

Does the program include an observership?
Yes, the program includes two days dedicated to an observership at McGill-affiliated hospitals.

Will we be assigned a mentor or supervisor during the observership?
Yes, each participant will be assigned a mentor or supervisor to guide their experience.

What level of engagement is expected during the observership?
Participants will engage in observation only due to regulatory restrictions for students without an official training license in Quebec. However, they will have opportunities to participate in discussions about patient care in certain settings.

What documents do I need to submit to take advantage of the observership opportunity?
To be eligible for the observership, participants must submit the following documents:

- Observership Agreement
- Immunization Record completed and signed by a healthcare professional.

Once you are enrolled in the program, we will send you all the necessary documents to complete.

Will the program help me to network with McGill students?
Yes, there will be several opportunities to meet with McGill residents, students and fellows through networking sessions and lunches.

Are there additional training opportunities offered to McGill Summer Program students?
Yes, McGill Summer Program students have the option to participate in the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course. Visit the Optional Course page to learn more.

Does the ACLS course provide a certificate?
Yes, participants who successfully complete the ACLS course will receive an official certificate of completion.

What is the cost for participating in the ACLS course?
The ACLS course costs $999 CAD.

What is the deadline to apply for the ACLS course?
Applications for the ACLS course are open until June 1, 2025.

What is the process for paying the ACLS course fee?
If you select "yes" in your application to indicate interest in the ACLS course, you will receive a payment link. Once the payment is completed, you will also receive the program’s theoretical content and reading materials.

Do I need to take an English certification test?
No, there is no need for English certification test, however, please note that English is the language of instruction. Students’ success in our program requires a high level of English language knowledge.

Are meals provided?
Lunches are provided during the sessions.

Are accommodations included?
No, please refer to the accommodations information on the Useful Information page. Please note that summer is a busy time so it’s a good idea to make reservations as soon as possible.

Will I need a computer?
Please bring an electronic device of your choice, for example a laptop or tablet.

Is there a dress code?
The dress code is casual. You do not need to bring scrubs or supplies for the hospital visits, everything will be provided.

Do I need health insurance?
Yes, you will need to purchase health insurance coverage for your entire stay in Canada.
