2015-2016 Team
Monica Allaby, Marketing Coordinator
Hello! I am a U1 student in Geography with a keen interest in sustainable global food systems - specifically, in creating a food system that is ecological, culturally relevant and economically accessible for all. I am a blog collaborator for Young Agrarians, an outreach volunteer for the McGill Farmer’s Market, and a Sustainable Food Educator with Student Housing & Hospitality Services. I’m thrilled to be part of the McGill Food Systems Project this year, and look forward to increasing the vibrancy and presence of the project in both the McGill and Montreal communities as Marketing Coordinator.
Alice Ardichvili, Applied Student Research Coordinator
Hey! This is Alice. I suck at writing blurbs about myself! I’m from France and I chose to study environmental sciences because I wanted to save the planet. I am not so sure it’s possible now but I’m happy to give it a try with the MFSP! My best experience with this group so far was tasting some sushi in the Chef’s office during a meeting. Join us. Eat sushi.
May Hobeika, External Manager
Hey, my name is May, I am a U1 student in Economics in the Arts faculty Environment program with a minor in psychology. Sustainability, especially in food supply, has become one of my main interests in the last few years and I have previously been involved with projects aimed at reducing food waste. As the External Coordinator, my role is to connect with other food sustainability groups in the Montreal community to create a deep network of groups that share the same goal as MFSP. I am very enthusiastic and excited to launch events in collaboration with other groups in order to have a larger impact on a more diverse audience.
John Lindsay, Internal Manager
Hi there, I’m in my third year at McGill studying Environmental Science. I’m the rising internal manager this year, which entails working with other portfolios and overseeing the group’s larger visions to ensure a smoothly run year. I got involved in the MFSP because of the tangible change we can create and because it has a great network of amazing people. I’m currently setting up an ASR project for winter semester (2016) called “The Real Food Challenge”, which consists of working with SHHS, McGill food providers and fellow students to improve the school’s sustainable procurement. I spend my time outside of the MFSP volunteering at Santropol Roulant and playing hockey!
Matthew McCormick, Campus Food Network Co-Coordinator
I’m a U4 student in International Development Studies, a coordinator of the McGill Farmers’ Market, a farmer at the MacDonald Student Garden, and a project facilitator at ECOLE. This year, I’m excited to form partnerships among groups that promote sustainable food systems at McGill as one of the MFSP’s Campus Food Network Coordinators. I appreciate the opportunities at McGill that allow students to learn how to grow and market food sustainably. I would like to see these projects continue to succeed and engage more of the student body.
Cecillia Portillo, Campus Food Network Co-Coordinator
Hello- call me Ceci! I am a Mexican/American student majoring in Global Food Security with a specialization in Environmental Economics. Since U0 I have been very involved in many different organizations on both downtown campus and Macdonald campus. I love to learn about everything. This past year I was very interested in environmental education, systems thinking, urban food systems and mental health.
However I am currently very interested in spaces, creativity, experimental music/sounds, and urban planning. Thinking about food, I am exploring how food is a part of spaces and how it can be used as a tool to educate, incite creativity, and make connections.
Amber Zhao, Finance Coordinator
Hey there! I’m a U2 student majoring in Finance and Marketing and I’m thrilled to be joining the team as this year’s Finance Coordinator. I’ve always been passionate about food and more recently I’ve become interested in how our food systems are impacting global health and nutrition. I was drawn to MFSP through seeing the meaningful results of their past projects and their vision for the future of McGill’s food systems. In my role, I am excited to be overseeing the fundraising efforts and managing the support for the many new projects we’re pursuing, as well as developing MFSP’s long-term sustainability.
