Student Experience

Online learners have access to the same student services and privileges as on-campus learners.

Our online courses are dynamic and optimized for student engagement and experiential learning. Courses are taught by the same McGill faculty teaching on campus who are recognized experts in their fields.

Flexible

Programs are primarily asynchronous, which allow you to learn and complete assignment at times that fit best within your schedule. Some courses include live sessions, but you will be advised in advance.

Modular

Our courses use modular learning units that are time-bound (usually one week) throughout the term.  You will be provided with learning objectives and assignments for each unit ‒ this could include screencasts, videos, readings, knowledge checks, and individual, group and class activities and assignments. When possible, courses include experiential learning opportunities that provide hands-on, practical experience.

Collaboration

Collaboration is an important component of many online courses, which includes class discussions and group work, often done asynchronously. You will have the chance to connect with students in McGill's learning platform (myCourses) and through other social media channels.

Evaluation

Most of your online assignment and exams will be found in myCourses. They can take a number of formats, including open book tests, simulation activities, quizzes, research papers, individual and group projects, online activities and discussions.

Duration

McGill's academic year is usually made up of three terms: Fall (September to December), Winter (January to April) and Summer (May to August). Courses can be 8-, 10-, or 13-weeks long. We consider industry needs and the typical schedule of professionals working in the field when determining the length of a course.

Support

Students have access to learning support, including McGill's IT Service Desk, IT Knowledge Base and a blog with resources for online learning. You can also access a range of student services remotely, including academic advising, tutorial support and library services.
