Electives for Medical Students

During the rotation, students will be integrated into the team of the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit and will gain experience in the multidisciplinary management of chronic pain. The team consists of physicians of different disciplines as well as allied health professionals.

During their rotation students will learn the basics of non-invasive and invasive pain therapies including non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches and how to: 

1.  Appreciate of the complex, multi-dimensional nature of chronic pain

2.  Develop interpersonal and communication skills with complex chronic pain patients

3.  Function in a multidisciplinary team setting

4.  Evaluate and develop therapeutic treatment plans for patients with chronic pain

In addition to active participation in the unit’s clinical activities students are expected to attend clinical rounds and all educational sessions.
