Prediabetes is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, which is a growing public health concern.
Prediabetes occurs when blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but do not reach the threshold for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Though re-attaining normal glucose levels is possible, prediabetes will progress to type 2 diabetes for many people.
A better understanding of the risk factors for the progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes is needed in order to prevent this disease.
Breaking research suggests that mental health plays an important role in the transition from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes; however, this is a very new field of research. Little is known about the links between prediabetes, mental health, and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The goals of the conference are to inform and link together researchers, clinicians, stake holders, and policy makers interested in mental health and prediabetes.
