From Saturday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 7, the Downtown and Macdonald Campuses will be open only to McGill students, employees and essential visitors. Many classes will be held online. Remote work required where possible. See Campus Public Safety website for details.

David Wright

Acting Associate Provost (Academic Policies and Faculty Affairs)

Starting 1 July 2024, Prof. David Wright will take on the role of Acting Associate Provost (Academic Policies and Faculty Affairs) to replace the position left vacant by Prof. Campbell.

Prof. Wright joined McGill University as Full Professor in 2011, jointly appointed in the Department of Equity, Ethics and Policy (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) and the Department of History and Classical Studies (Faculty of Arts). He is an accomplished researcher, currently in his second term as a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, specializing in the history of health policy. During his time at McGill, he has served as Interim Director of the Institute for Health and Social Policy as well as Chair of the Department of History and Classical Studies. He also recently took on the Interim role of Associate Dean (Faculty Affairs) in the Faculty of Arts. Prof. Wright exemplifies how research excellence and collegial governance can coexist.

The Acting Associate Provost (Academic Policies and Faculty Affairs) will oversee all academic lifecycle matters and all policies related to academic staff, along with the growing mentorship programs established in recent years. In close collaboration with the Equity team at McGill, which will remain under the leadership of Tynan Jarrett, Director of EDI, Prof. Wright will ensure that diversity and equity are embedded across the academic staff lifecycle while also promoting inclusive practices. In addition, he will uphold the highest standards for the recruitment, nomination, and support of Canada Research Chairs and internal award programs.
