Students from Saudi Arabia studying at McGill

The Saudi Arabian Cultural Bureau has confirmed that Saudi citizens currently enrolled as residents or fellows in medical programs may now continue to pursue their training at Canadian universities. Any residents or fellows who left their programs as a result of the July decision will be permitted to resume their studies.
Likewise, all new Saudi postgraduate medical education trainees (fellows and residents) currently in Canada are permitted to join the residency or fellowship programs into which they have been accepted. All newly appointed trainees currently in Saudi Arabia who hold valid Scholarship Decrees from their Kingdom of Saudi Arabia sponsoring agencies are permitted to enter Canadian PGME programs into which they have already been accepted.
McGill is encouraged by this development and looks forward to continued collaboration with Saudi residents and fellows in the coming academic year.

The government of Saudi Arabia recently took measures to restrict engagement with Canada, including the revocation of financial support to citizens of Saudi Arabia studying at Canadian universities.
We take this decision seriously and are actively investigating its effect on our students and on our programs. We are also in conversation with peer institutions across the country to understand the full effect of these measures.
McGill University counts several hundred Saudi citizens among its thousands of students and many more among its global alumni community. We are proud of the diversity of our community and will continue to pursue our commitment to international engagement by welcoming students from around the world, by fostering global collaborations in teaching and research, and by creating opportunities for learning in Quebec, across Canada, and around the world.

Les étudiants d'Arabie saoudite à McGill

Le Bureau culturel saoudien au Canada a confirmé que les citoyens d’Arabie saoudite inscrits à titre de résidents ou d’associés à un programme de médecine sont autorisés à poursuivre leur formation au sein d’universités canadiennes. Les résidents et associés ayant abandonné leur programme à la suite de la décision prise en juillet dernier seront autorisés à reprendre leurs études.
Par ailleurs, tout nouvel étudiant saoudien poursuivant une formation médicale postdoctorale (associé ou résident) qui se trouve présentement au Canada est autorisé à entreprendre un programme à titre de résident ou d’associé dans lequel il a été accepté. Tout nouveau doctorant qui se trouve présentement en Arabie saoudite titulaire d’un décret académique valide émis par l’un des organismes garants du Royaume d’Arabie saoudite est autorisé à entreprendre une formation médicale postdoctorale canadienne pour laquelle sa candidature a été retenue.
L’Université McGill se réjouit de cette nouvelle situation et est heureuse de poursuivre, au cours de cette nouvelle année universitaire, la collaboration amorcée avec les résidents et associés saoudiens.

Dans la foulée des mesures prises récemment pour limiter ses relations avec le Canada, le gouvernement d’Arabie saoudite a révoqué le soutien financier accordé à ses citoyens étudiant dans des universités canadiennes.
Nous prenons cette décision au sérieux et évaluons actuellement ses répercussions sur nos étudiants et nos programmes. À cette fin, nous nous entretenons également avec d’autres établissements d’enseignement supérieur du Canada.
L’Université McGill compte plusieurs centaines de citoyens saoudiens parmi ses milliers d’étudiants, et encore davantage parmi ses diplômés partout sur la planète. Cette diversité est pour nous une source de fierté, et nous continuerons à tendre la main aux étudiants du monde entier en favorisant les collaborations internationales en enseignement et en recherche, et en offrant des possibilités d’apprentissage au Québec, au Canada et aux quatre coins du monde.
Nous vous tiendrons au fait de l’évolution de la situation. Les étudiants peuvent également s’adresser au Service d’aide aux étudiants internationaux, au Bureau des études supérieures et postdoctorales ou au Bureau de la formation médicale postdoctorale.
