The Department of Psychiatry of the Children’s provides services for children and adolescents up to the age of 18. Hospital–based services include the Pediatric Psychiatry Care Program that provides crisis stabilization and assessment in the in-patient unit for children and adolescents, and day hospital programs where intensive short–term treatment is given. The Consultation Liaison Service offers brief interventions to patients admitted to the medical and surgical units and ongoing consultation to services providing care to children with serious chronic disease. The Mental Health Emergency Room Team provides urgent psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, and liaison with services offered in the community for ongoing follow-up. The Outpatient Psychiatric Service includes general psychiatry clinics and specialized clinics in areas such as attention deficit disorders, autism and pervasive developmental disorders, and behaviour pediatrics.

Message from the Chief

The Department of Psychiatry of the Montreal Children’s Hospital has a long and proud history, as it was the first child psychiatry program developed in Montreal.  It is now an exciting time for the department as it is in the process of implementing the new Plan d’action en santé mentale and developing avant-garde specialized tertiary services. Collaboration and teamwork among our stakeholders are now more important than ever as we continue to provide support to our community and our extended network, while developing complex instruments and interventions for high level services. With the only child emergency room of the McGill University Health Centre network, the Department of Psychiatry of the Montreal Children’s Hospital remains a leader for clinical care, teaching, and research.
