Application Information

Interested psychiatry residents are encouraged to contact the program director during their PGY-3 year in psychiatry, as the optimal timing for application to this program is early in the PGY-4 year. Please see the PGME Admissions website for detailed requirements and application deadlines.

The required documents include:

1.      A personal statement (relevant background, motivation and career goals should be highlighted)

2.      An updated CV

3.      Three reference letters, ideally from Geriatric Psychiatrists (need not be certified Geriatric Psychiatrists), to be sent directly by email from the referees to the PGME Office, pgadm.med [at] mcgill.ca

Please contact Mr Roger El Asmar, Faculty of Medicine Admissions Administrator, at admissionspg.med [at] mcgill.ca (with cc to jess.friedland [at] mcgill.ca and geriatric.psychiatry [at] mcgill.ca) to advise her of your intent to submit an application.

Mr El Asmar will guide you in the Faculty of Medicine online application process.

In addition to contacting Mr El Asmar, you will find additional information on the admissions process at the following link: https://www.mcgill.ca/pgme/admissions/prospective-residents/apply

**Applicants who are currently residents in one of the four general psychiatry programs in the Province of Quebec will be contacted, following their interview to our Geriatric subspecialty program, by the Bureau du Coopération Interuniversitaire (BCI), for a ranked list of their preferred program(s). The McGill Geriatric Psychiatry program will also submit a preferred candidate rank order list to McGill PGME, who will forward this list to the BCI. The applicant’s admission to one of the four Geriatric Psychiatry programs in Quebec will thus be a match, organized by the BCI.

**Applications are due on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.**
