Join thousands of labs across the world competing in the International Freezer Challenge!

Published: 5 June 2023

We are now in the final month of the International Freezer Challenge at McGill. Thousands of labs worldwide have signed up and logged their cold storage management practices. McGill participants have also received prizes, including the popular Early Bird Breakfast and freezer clean-up supplies.

There are just four weeks left to join the International Freezer Challenge! Participation in this competition to save energy and earn points for lab teams is free. All you need to do is register and enter any cold storage management actions you implemented between August 2022 and the deadline of 30 June 2023.

The International Freezer Challenge is a global competition organized annually by My Green Lab and the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) to promote energy efficient cold storage management.

The Office of Sustainability (MOOS) is coordinating the International Freezer Challenge at McGill and has prepared McGill-specific guidance and instructions at this website: International Freezer Challenge - McGill University.

Prof. Dieter Reinhardt has been implementing many actions recommended by the Challenge. Learn more about the benefits of good freezer management practices in this McGill Reporter feature: Sustainability in research: If you want to green your lab, start with the freezer
