Although the Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute (SASSI) has only launched in August 2022, graduate fellowships have been allocated by SASSI to incoming students enrolled in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (DKPE) since 2020. This fellowship program aims to encourage thesis research that advances human sport performance. So far, we have funded 20 students from all over the world.Â

Hantho FellowshipsÂ
Established in 2025 by Monica Leitham Hantho, BEd 1981, and Mark Hantho, BCom 1981. Awarded annually by the Faculty of Education, on the basis of academic merit, to one or more outstanding women Master’s students entering or enrolled in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education who are pursuing research in sports science and optimizing the performance of women athletes, in collaboration with McGill’s Women in Sport (WiS) Program and the Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute. Value: Varies. The fund will also provide undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education with the opportunity to conduct research focused on optimizing performance in women athletes and athlete health.Â

Fellowship Applications
To apply, the student must have been admitted to a graduate program in DKPE, or have applied for admission into a DKPE graduate program. Applications are to be prepared together by the applicant and their intended supervisor. Exceptional cases may be considered (please inquire ahead of the application deadline).
