Ice cream rounds are offered to medical students during Transition to Clinical Practice and during Clerkship in their Psychiatry rotation, with the facilitation of a UGME Wellness Consultant.
An ice cream round is a single, confidential, small-group session of up to 20 medical students that offers students a safe space where they can reflect on their professional vulnerabilities, offer mutual support, and share resilience strategies.
Ice cream rounds have been held virtually since the COVID-19 pandemic and have remained virtual since objectives were still met ( Clerkship Ice Cream Rounds: Adapting to a Virtual Setting During the COVID-19 Pandemic (CCME 2022)). To compensate for the absence of ice cream during the Ice Cream Rounds, Ice Cream Socials, with actual ice cream and therapy dogs, are organized yearly in June or September.
