Advising & Other Resources

NEW STUDENTS: If you are a newly admitted student to the B.Sc. or B.A. & Sc., please visit our New Student Advising page to book an appointment with a Degree advisor. To reach Program advisors, please consult the contact link below (under Program advisors).

Degree advisors & SOUSA

The Science Office for Undergraduate Student Advising (SOUSA) is the office that houses the Faculty's degree advisors. Degree advisors are experts in University and Faculty regulations and the requirements of the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts & Science degrees. All Science students have an assigned degree advisor.

Speak with SOUSA or your degree advisor if you have questions about:

  • Foundation program requirements
  • Degree requirements and planning
  • University and Faculty regulations
  • Study away/exchange
  • Final exam issues (e.g. advisors do not grant deferrals, but can provide guidance on the implications of deferring an exam)
  • Interfaculty transfers
  • Readmission

Advisor assignment for B.Sc. students:

Degree advisors are usually assigned by the 3rd week of June and listed on your unofficial Minerva transcript.

Advisor assignment for B.A. & Sc. students:

All Bachelor of Arts & Science students are automatically assigned to the dedicated advisor, Tania Raggo (on leave) - contact marina.saunders [at] mcgill.ca (Marina Saunders).

Please note: The contacts above are for academic advising inquiries only. If you have questions related to admissions (e.g., application status, requirements, or documents), please contact Service Point at: https://www.mcgill.ca/servicepoint/contact

Program advisors

Program advisors, located in their respective academic units or departments (e.g. the advisor for Biology programs is located in the Department of Biology) are experts in the requirements of their department's courses and programs. Each major, minor, honours, and interfaculty program at McGill has a program advisor.

Speak with a program advisor if you have questions about:

  • Program requirements (majors, minors, etc.)
  • Courses offered in their unit/department
  • Course registration issues (e.g. requesting permission to register for a course that is full or has restrictions)
  • Careers in a specific field of study
  • Getting the most out of your program
  • Research
  • Graduate school in your field

Program advisors are not assigned.

For questions about a program or course, contact the advisor in the department offering it (e.g., math questions → Mathematics & Statistics advisor).
