Research Team

Our research team consists of a group of energetic individuals with diverse sport backgrounds who come together with a common interest for research and applied sport psychology. In collaboration with Dr. Gordon Bloom, the team conducts innovative research that contributes to the advancement of the field. This is achieved by members collaborating within a supportive environment to maximize each and everyone’s individual strengths. A combination of passion, teamwork, and a growth mindset are the keys for meeting high standards on a daily basis. It is inspiring to be a part of a group of qualified and hardworking individuals who are committed to contributing to a culture of excellence.

Alexandre Gagnon, current Master's student, has been named winner of the Dr. Randy Gregg Award for student-athlete community service in men's hockey. He is the second McGill player to win this prestigious national award and the first since future NHL player Mathieu Darche in 2000.

After having been appointed as the interim head coach of the McGill University men's hockey team in September, 2019, Liam Heelis (MA, 2017) has signed a one-year contract extension, which will allow him to continue to serve as interim head coach.

Lab alumna Charline Labonté (MA, 2015), along with two other McGill grads (Kim St-Pierre and Catherine Ward) were named by TSN as part of their "All-Time Team Canada" women's roster, thereby recognizing them among all-time Team Canada greats.

Charline Labonté (MA, 2015) is inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame along with the rest of the Women's Vancouver 2010 hockey team after winning a gold medal on home ice. Also featured in this photo is Gillian Ferrari (MA, 2014), who was a member of the gold medal winning team in 2006.

The University of Lethbridge held a discussion about the psychological impact of concussions, which featured Scott Rathwell (MA, 2012) and Jeff Caron (PhD, 2016). "There’s some great work going on in the physiological realm of things, but we have not put the same emphasis on the psychological aspect of recovery. We know from previous research outside of concussions that the psychological impact of injury has a major effect on our athletes.”
