Taping in Clinical Practice 

This hybrid workshop is open to physical therapists and athletic therapists who would like to gain knowledge and practical experience with different types of taping (traditional taping, kinesio taping and dynamic taping). The content is designed for clinicians who have minimal experience with taping or clinicians who would like a refresher.

Schedule:

Online portion: 1hr 30 minutes  – mandatory completion before the in-person portion. 

In-person portion: Spring 2025

During the in-person portion of the workshop, participants will practice multiple tapings including some for the spine, the upper extremities, and the lower extremities.

Cost: 300.00

Cost includes all materials (tape and instruction sheets of the in-person portion), lunch, and coffee breaks.
Free parking passes will be available on request.

The number of participants is limited to 24 for this workshop. Priority will be given to registrations in order of receipt.

Language of Instruction

The online and in-person portions of the workshop will be taught in English. However, questions are welcome in both French and English. Presentation materials will be available in English only.

 

Description

This workshop will introduce basic concepts of taping (traditional taping, kinesio taping and dynamic taping) for the clinician and cover the different types of material used in various settings. Demonstrations and practice of taping techniques relevant to clinical practice will be covered using a case-based approach during the in-person portion of the workshop.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the different types of taping, the basic principles of taping as well as taping material used in both the clinic and on the field.
  • Discuss taping efficiency and some research findings/evidence on the different types of taping.
  • Understand and apply the steps involved before, during and after a taping technique.
  • Perform taping techniques relevant to clinical practice (spine, upper extremity and lower extremity) using various types of tape.

Schedule

The schedule will include a morning break, a lunch break, and an afternoon break. 1.5 hours of learning material will be provided before the date of the workshop. 

Faculty

Isabelle Pearson pht, MSc, Cert MDT, Dip. Sport PT

Isabelle P. taping wrist of an athlete Isabelle Pearson is a physical therapist with an expertise in sports and orthopedic physiotherapy. She completed her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy at McGill University in 2004 and her Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Sciences also from McGill University in 2008. Over the years, she has participated in many continuing education courses primarily in sport and orthopedic physical therapy including manual therapy, MDT, Mulligan and dry needling to name a few. She obtained her Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy from Sport Physiotherapy Canada in 2014. She is also a registered International Sport Physical Therapist.

Isabelle has worked in various private clinics for about 20 years with a sport and orthopedic clientele from various ages. She also covered multiple on-field events in various sports such as judo, volleyball, soccer, rugby, football, Lacrosse, ice hockey and track & field.

For many years, Isabelle was the head physiotherapist for Canada’s national judo team and accompanied the team for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games, in London, England. Today, she continues to work with Judo Canada as a physiotherapist, and a member of the Sport Committee and the Judo Canada Gender Equity Committee.

Isabelle is an Associate Professor at the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy at McGill University. For over 15 years she has been teaching in the areas of orthopedics and sports physiotherapy at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She is also a mentor for the postgraduate credential program of Sport Physiotherapy Canada.

Depending on the number of participants who register, other sport physiotherapists will join Isabelle for this workshop.
