SP0001: Apartment Gardens

Status: COMPLETED May 2010 - November 2010

Apartment Gardens gives individuals on the downtown McGill campus an opportunity to have a small home garden, right in their window or on their balcony. The service will provide people with leafy vegetable seedlings in small pots using compost and soil, distributed weekly at the McGill Farmers’ Market.

This project allows McGill community members to learn basic gardening techniques without the need for a backyard or time-consuming acquisition of materials and preparation of seedlings.  It presents people with the opportunity to simultaneously reduce their carbon footprint and provide them with food.  Come out to pick some plants up, take care of them, harvest and then return the pots with leftover plant matter and soil for recycling.
