The Sustainable Commuting Program encourages sustainable, low-carbon travel among faculty, staff, and students at McGill. The Program was designed to provide incentives to remove some of the barriers to sustainable commuting - such as costs, safety, distance from campus, and access to public transit networks - and thereby nudge behavior shifts towards sustainable modes of transport.

Bike Commuter Subsidy: McGill employees who commit to bike to work at least 50% of the time were eligible to sign up to the “Ride & Refresh” program, a 6-month subsidized membership (May to October 2023) to access showers, locker rooms, and a towel/basket service at the McGill Sports Complex for $19.99 + tax.

Subscription to Carpool Platform: In Fall 2023, we launched McGill Rideshare, an app to enable McGillians to easily find carpoolers, as well as biking, public transit, and walking buddies, with whom to commute.

In launching the two incentives, the project helped expand McGill's offering of sustainable travel incentives as the community returned to commuting to campus post-pandemic. We are currently exploring expanding the incentives beyond SPF seed-funding.
