Admission Requirements

pencil on a multiple choice exam bubble formApplicants to the program must be graduates of a recognized university and hold a Bachelor's degree in engineering, urban planning or architecture (or equivalent) and a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0, or a GPA of 3.2 out of a 4.0 in the last two years of full-time studies in the relevant undergraduate program.

Proficiency in English

Applicants to graduate studies must demonstrate proficiency in English the application deadline, regardless of citizenship status or country of origin. students talking in library over books

Applicants whose mother tongue is not English and who have not completed an undergraduate or graduate degree from a recognized foreign institution where English is the language of instruction or from a recognized Canadian institution (anglophone or francophone), need to demonstrate an adequate level of proficiency in English, using one of the following options:

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); Applicants must achieve an overall minimum score of 94 on the internet-based test (iBT) with a minimum score of 20 for each component (i.e., Writing, Reading, Speaking, Listening); or
  • the IELTS (International English Language Testing System); Applicants must achieve a minimum overall band score of 7 with a score of at least 6.5 for each component to apply.

McGill accepts only electronic test scores.  It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that official test scores are sent directly from the testing service to McGill University (Institutional code: 0935) before the application deadline.  Additional information can be found at https://www.mcgill.ca/gradapplicants/how-apply/you-apply-mcgill/proficiency.

Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)

students in university class laughingSubmission of GRE (General Aptitude Test) scores is not mandatory.  Applicants who have written the GRE are welcome to submit their scores for consideration. www.ets.org/gre
