Postdoctoral Fellowship / Project Management Position
TRaCE Transborder: PhD Grads Driving Change by Telling their Stories
McGill University seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow / Project Manager to join a large, international activist-research partnership of universities and organizations in North America, Europe, Africa, India, China, and Australia. “TRaCE Transborder: PhD grads driving change by telling their stories” seeks to transform the problem of humanities PhD underemployment into a global opportunity. The project will fashion narrative knowledge about PhD career pathways into an instrument for individual career advancement, international bridge-building, and institutional and social change.
Please note that two previous large-scale research projects (Making Publics and Early Modern Conversions) led by the present Project Director featured these hybrid PDF / Project Managerpositions. The four scholars who served as PDFs / Project Managers in the projects have all gone on to either tenured professorships or permanent positions in university administration.
The start date for the year-long position is August 12, 2024. There is the possibility of a one-year renewal. Candidates will have a PhD in one of the humanities, not excluding fields such as Law, Education, and Music. The TRaCE Transborder PDF / Project Manager will be expected to assist the Project Director with the planning and organization of the project, to work closely with colleagues and partners in an interdisciplinary context, keep the project website up-to-date, and provide training and support to the Graduate Student Researchers at the Partner Universities. The PDF / Project Manager will also find ample time, intellectual community, and research support to develop work toward publication in fields of interest related to the Transborder Project, including, for example, the social politics of higher education, the history (and/or the future) of public scholarship, the potential of humanities research and teaching to address present-day challenges such as the emergence of neo-fascism in the West or the climate emergency, etc. The fellowship stipend will be approximately $50,000 per annum.
