Hub by the Numbers

“It’s impossible to get an appointment at the Student Wellness Hub.”

We know you’ve heard it around campus or online. You might have even said it yourself. We get it, and we know that for a while, for many of the reasons explained here, it felt nearly impossible to get an appointment.

The good news is that we've heard you, and we’re continually working to make things better. December 3rd marks three months since the semester began and the Hub officially opened, and we're happy to report that our appointment availability has increased substantially. We know it might be hard to believe, so we pulled some numbers:

  • 42% increase in pre-booked appointments (with a doctor or nurse) since the beginning of this semester
  • 57% increase in drop-in appointments (with a doctor or nurse) since the beginning of this semester
  • 141% increase in mental health appointments with a counsellor or LWA since the beginning of this semester (!)
  • Over 19,000 appointments in the Hub since we launched in July
  • 12 new clinicians (3 psychiatrists, 3 nurses, 6 general practitioners) since September
  • Appointments with a counsellor in 1-4 weeks (depending on severity, compared to a minimum of 4 weeks in May 2019), and with a psychiatrist in 2-3 weeks (a reduction of over 10 weeks compared to May 2019!)

There is still a lot of room for improvement. There are still some growing pains, we’re still struggling with larger healthcare shortages in Montreal and Quebec, so that’s why we continue to talk with students, listen to your feedback, collect statistics, and improve our services based on your needs.

Struggling to get access? Think we could do better? hub.clinic [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Hub%20Feedback) (Let us know)! We do want to hear from you, we will get back to you, and we will continue to be as transparent as possible while we figure this out together.
