Four Pillars of Wellbeing Workshop
Sponsored by the McGill Department of Medicine & Programs in Whole Person Care exclusively for all members of the Department of Medicine at McGill University, Montreal
Physician Wellbeing has been on the radar of the McGill Department of Medicine and the MUHC for years, even before the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018, Dr. Patricia Dobkin held five workshops for physicians of the department. Workshops were found to be beneficial, especially for overcoming professional isolation. MDs enjoyed the interactive, experiential work with the facilitator. They recommended offering more wellness-oriented workshops. One publication [Dobkin, P.L. & Velez, C. (2020) Physicians’ Views on a Wellbeing Course Gifted to Them: A qualitative study. Perm J, 24:19.228] and a presentation at the CMA/BMA/AMA Physician Health Conference (April 2021) resulted from the endeavor.
Now, as the vaccination process is well underway, and we all are looking forward to working under less stressful conditions the experiences of MDs cannot be simply put in the past without a means to process what happened and find ways to cope effectively with the pandemic’s aftermath.
With that in mind, Dr. Dobkin has designed a novel workshop entitled, Four Pillars of Wellbeing. The worksop will be delivered online for 75 minutes, once per week, for four weeks (i.e., 5 hours total) facilitating a group of up to 20 MDs via Zoom.
The Four Pillars of Wellbeing Workshop includes mini-lectures, experiential learning, exchanges among a mix group of of healthcare professionals.
Dr. Dobkin is a certified (UMASS Medical School) Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction instructor and has been facilitating Mindfulness-Based Medical Practice workshops for 16 years. She was also trained at the University of Rochester Medical School to teach Mindful Practice.
