Welcome to the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management - Bachelor of Commerce!
Congratulations on your admission to McGill! As you begin your studies in the Bachelor of Commerce, we’re here to support you in navigating your academic path.
The BCom Undergraduate Student Affairs Office is your main resource for academic planning, university regulations, and degree requirements.
On the New Students pages, you'll find essential academic guidance to help you start off strong—covering everything from course selection and registration to understanding advanced standing and first-year requirements.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to our advisors at bcom.newstudent [at] mcgill.ca
Step 1 - Determine your admission type
Understand the difference between U0 and U1
- You will be in U0 if you have been admitted without advanced standing or with less than 24 credits of advanced standing (i.e. APs, IB). U0 students are automatically registered in the Foundation Year.
- You will be in U1 if you have been admitted with 24 or more credits of advanced standing/transfer credit. This includes students admitted from CEGEP, French Baccalauréat, International Baccalaureat Diploma, Advanced-Level, with Advanced Placement (AP) credits and other international credentials. U1 students MUST declare their major prior to registering for classes.
Step 2 - Verify your math requirements
Depending on your previous education, you will need to take 1, 2 or 3 math courses for your BCom degree. Some students may not need to take any math courses at McGill (i.e. students from CEGEP).
Review the Math Requirements for BCom Students webpage for all details.
Step 3 - Attend the Intro to Course Registration webinar
Register for Intro to Course Registration, which includes one session of Registering for Courses with Minerva.
Having issues adding a course? Learn more about reserved closed, minor restrictions, waitlist and more! Visit Registering for courses.
Step 4 - Attend the BCom information sessions
The BCom New Student Registration Q&A sessions help you navigate the registration process. These sessions were held early June. See the
BCom New Student Presentation.
The advising team will be available through Zoom with Registration Support Drop-ins. Join us to verify your registration or for any questions. These sessions were held early June.
