Located in Bronfman building, on the fourth floor, is a selection of Japanese prints from the twentieth century by internationally acclaimed artists Toko Shinoda and Haku Maki. Toko Shinoda (1913-) is known for her unique prints and paintings in sumi ink, both of which merge traditional calligraphy with modern abstract expressionism. Haku Maki (1924 – 2000) was a self-trained artist whose prints stand out for their unique texture and Kanji (adopted Chinese characters used in Japanese) motifs. Next to the prints also stands a wonderful abstract sculpture, Commander in Chief (2006), by Canadian artist Peter Monk (1937 –).
