Dean & Associate VP

We are pleased to announce some exciting developments in the leadership structure of the Faculty for 2024.

Having served as Dean, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Associate Vice-President (Macdonald Campus) since 2015, Professor Anja Geitmann has been appointed Interim Vice-President (Global Engagement), reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University, for a one-year assignment effective January 1, 2024. In this role, Professor Geitmann will work closely with McGill’s executive team to explore new opportunities for collaboration with peer institutions, augment the effectiveness and reach of international activities led by various McGill Faculties and units, oversee broad internal and external consultations to enhance McGill’s international strategy and advance the University’s vision for global academic leadership.

  • Professor Geitmann retains responsibility for the Faculty's University Advancement work including alumni relations.

As a result, and for the duration of Professor Geitmann’s appointment, James McGill Professor Valerie Orsat will serve as the Acting Dean (Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences) and Professor Petra Rohrbach will serve as the Acting Associate Vice-President (Macdonald Campus).

Acting Dean (Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences)

Professor Valérie Orsat, a seasoned academic and administrative professional, has held various leadership roles at McGill, including Chair of the Department of Bioresource Engineering and Associate Dean (Student Affairs). She has been recognized for her stellar contributions to the engineering profession and women in STEM by the Canadian Society of Engineering (John Clark Award, 2015) and the MRS London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) Engineering (‘Engineering and Physical Sciences’ Suffrage Science award).

  • Professor Orsat oversees the mission of the Faculty, including academic programs and research, and represents the Faculty within the university context.

Acting Associate Vice-President (Macdonald Campus)

Professor Petra Rohrbach is a distinguished academic leader who has significantly contributed to enhancing our campus infrastructure and development. Professor Rohrbach is the Chair of the Macdonald Sub-Committee on Physical Facilities and sits on the Senate Committee on Physical Development. She has served on the McGill Board of Governors and the Board's Executive Committee for the past three years and is a member of the Board's Finance and Infrastructure Committee (formerly the Buildings and Property Committee). Her wealth of experience and a profound understanding of ongoing campus projects position her well to advance initiatives to optimize teaching and research facilities on the Macdonald Campus.
