Skills to Advocate for Yourself and your Wellbeing: A Mental Health Workshop for Indigenous Students

Thursday, March 10, 2022 10:00to12:00
A Mental Health Workshop for Indigenous Students

This 2 session workshop is for self-identified Indigenous (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) students to learn skills to effectively communicate their needs and to identify moments when self-advocacy might benefit them. In recognition of systemic barriers that Indigenous Peoples disproportionately face and their impacts on mental health, the goal of this strengths-based workshop is for students to build confidence in their abilities to speak up for themselves, while weighing the risks and benefits of doing so. Students will learn and practice communication and negotiation skills, ways to overcome internal and external barriers, and resources/supports they can access. *These sessions will be co-led by two Indigenous facilitators from the Student Wellness Hub (Lance Lamore, Indigenous Counsellor, and Katrina Smeja, Counselling Intern).  Please plan on attending both dates March 10 & 17, 2022.

Kindly register 24 hours prior to the start time of the workshop to receive the invitation to the online meeting.

All Wellness Hub events are made available only to McGill students who have registered. To keep our virtual space safe, please do not allow any other person to access your registration information. By choosing to participate, you consent that your name (or preferred name), image and voice may be shared with other participants.
