Mentorship Program

Our formal DOM-wide mentorship program is focused on the needs of early career faculty (within 5 years of appointment). Our program uses a tailored mentorship software tool (Mentoring Resources TM) to facilitate matching of mentees with mentors, provide access to mentoring materials, surveys, goal setting tools and scheduling applications. The program was launched in Spring 2021, and now includes 80+ faculty who complete the active program over 12 months and then continue their informal partnerships for as long as mutually beneficial. Mentors complete a 1.5-hour training and orientation session prior to signing on as mentors. All mentees are invited to participate upon recruitment. From June 1, 2023 to June 1, 2024, the program is accredited for up to 17 hours of Section 3 RCPSC credits for mentees (14 hours) and mentors (17 hours).

We are recruiting more mentors! Please email natalie.dayan [at] mcgill.ca or giorgina.ciavarella [at] mcgill.ca and we will get back to you with upcoming orientation dates!

Schwartz Centre Rounds

The McGill DOM is proud to report that we are officially a Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare member. Schwartz Rounds are Grand Rounds style events that focus on a case or a theme related to the emotional impact of patient care that team members experience. A multidisciplinary panel facilitates a discussion enabling participants to share their experiences, and then respond to comments from the audience. It is a great way to reflect on subjects that may not be typically discussed in a group forum.

WeLounge

During the aspiration exercise, many of us expressed a longing to gather as we once did - in a faculty lounge. When the wellness task force got together to put this plan to fruition, we realized that the concept of a lounge has evolved over time.

And so, the birth of WeLounge: a series of pop-up lounge activities designed to foster well-being by creating opportunities for relaxation and social interaction among DOM colleagues.

More events to come. Stay tuned!

CARE Workshop

Offered to all new/incoming faculty within two years of appointment, this half-day workshop allows DOM members to reflect on and share different communication styles, emotional awareness and regulation techniques, and strategies for optimal engagement in the clinical work environment.
