9th Asia-Pacific Business Schools Desert Adventure

August 2020

A Battle in Tengger - Story of the 9th Asia-Pacific Business Schools Desert Adventure

Zhejiang University set a new record by ranking fifth in the team competition, and won the highest honor of the event – the Sandpiper Award. FANG Jie from GMSCM 2017 won the championship in men’s group A, and five other players, with their excellent performance, ranked top ten in competition in group A, B and C.

Plant Tours in the Manufacturing Environment Course

To enrich students’ first-hand knowledge about the relationships between environment and manufacturing, on July 17, 2020, Professor SHOU, Yong Yi, while teaching his course of Manufacturing Environment, one of the courses in GMSCM program, organized a plant tour to Hozon Auto company that produces electricity cars with the brand name of Neza U.

Seminar during Pandemic

On May 25, 2020, Professor Zhao Yao, Rutgers Business School of Rutgers University, was invited by GMSCM program to give a Zoom talk entitled Post-Pandemic Global Supply Chain Restructuring and China’s Opportunities. He shared his assessment about the short- and long-term impact of pandemic on the supply chains in China based on the extensive data he collected. He also identified the key drivers for future transformation of global supply chain. The details of his talk is described in Chinese online.

GMSCM visit Supor Home Appliance Manufacturing Company, December 2019 December 27, 2019 - Visit to Supor Home Appliance Manufacturing Company

Members of GMSCM classes of 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019 followed GMSCM 2015 senior Kong Qingqin and Supor companion Zhang Ting to visit Supor Park located at Binjiang Jugong Road under the organization of Professor Ma. Here we visited the stretching, painting, injection and assembly workshops, and had a good lunch at the supplier special dining hall of staff canteen. In the afternoon, we deeply discussed with the management personnel of E-commerce data center, Supply Chain Department etc. of Supor on the inventory prediction of E-commerce channel that the enterprise is currently facing.

September 2019 - GMSCM Opening Ceremony 2019

GMSCM Class 2019 held its opening ceremony at OWSpace Bookstore in Hangzhou in September 2019. GMSCM admission director Mr. Ma Shuqun, Prof. Shou Yongyi and Ms. Ma Jin from Zhejiang University joined Illustrious McGill alumni Peter Fu and Wilson Wang at the event. In addition, through video stream, GMSCM co-director Prof. Li Shanling from McGill University, along with administration staff Yulia and Ashley, sent their greetings to the new class.

SF Express Logo July 13, 2019 - Visit to Sun Feng (SF) Express

SF Express (Group) Co., Ltd. is a Chinese delivery service company based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. It is the second largest courier in China, and it provides domestic and international express delivery. SF Express has a fleet of 50 cargo aircraft, including 27 B757, 17 B737, five B767 and one B747 all-cargo freighters, which owned by its subsidiary SF Airlines. It has transported around 2 million tonnes of cargo, since its operation began.

On July 13th, under a heavy rain, about 50 teachers and students from GMSCM 17&18 cohorts visited the warehouse of SF at Zhejiang Province which is within driving distances from Zhejiang University. The students and professors met with two managers who took students for a tour to visit the modern warehouse and then talked with students about big data analysis in the company.

June 1, 2019 - Convocation at McGill

Seven students came to McGill to attend the annual convocation. On the stage, they received the diplomas from Dean Isabelle Bajeux. Then they came to Desautels Faculty of Management to attend the welcome party hosted by Yulia Nikitina, the administrator of the GMSCM program. Professors Benjamin Croitoru, Patricia Hewlin and Vince Thompsons who have been teaching in the program came specially to meet with the students. The students and professors had really a good time.

June 1, 2019 - Completion of the Course Work by 2017 cohort

The students in 2017 cohort held a party to celebrate the completion of all program courses. Prof. Saibal Ray at Desautels Faculty of Management and Prof. Yiyong Shou and Matt Ma attended party.

May 31, 2019 - Celebration of the End of the Semester by 2018 Cohort

Students in 2018 cohort held a party to celebrate the end of the semester. Professor Saibal Ray who was teaching there, Prof. Yongyi Shou, the academic director of GMSCM at Zhejiang University and Matt Ma, the admission director also attended the party.

May 30, 2019 - Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain Forum

GMSCM held an annual forum entitled Healthcare Supply Chain Governance and Digitalization sponsored by the School of Management of Zhejiang University and the Desautels Faculty of Management of McGill University. The forum was also supported by the administrators in Zhejiang University MBA Program Office and the GMSCM Program, The forum was well attended with over 100 attendees. Associate Dean, Prof. Xiaoyun Xie, Prof. Yongyi Shou, academic director of Zhejiang University and Prof. Shanling Li, academic director at McGill gave opening speeches. Five guest speakers shared their experiences and research findings on digitalization in the healthcare including Prof. Daniel Ding at Desautels Faculty of Management. The forum drew a lot of attention from students, professors and scientists.

May 25, 2019 - GMSCM Reunion

GMSCM program invited all the students who graduated and currently study in the program to have a get-together. This special event is sponsored by Zhejiang University and McGill University in Canada. Despite long travel distances and busy schedules during the weekend, students came from all directions to share the joyful moment of the reunion in the GMSCM family, and to witness the growth of the program in terms of the growing number of students. During the reunion, a few alumni shared their experiences of applying what they learnt in the program into their jobs to improve the efficiency and performances of the companies where they work. Over 100 GMSCM current students and alumni gathered together to fully enjoy the warmth within the GMSCM family. Mr. Francois Dansereau, joined the outing with the students in the evening of May 25th.

Graduation Ceremony of 2016 Cohort May 25, 2019 - Graduation Ceremony of 2016 Cohort

GSMCM program congratulated the students in 2016 cohort to graduate from the program. Mr. Francois Dansereau, Chief of political and public affair service. Québec Government Office in Shanghai Vice Consul, Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai, attended this event and gave a speech to congratulate the students. Professor Li as the academic director of Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University gave a speech to encourage the students to use their unique talents and energy to make a positive impact on the communities in which they live and work. Mr. Zhicheng Zhu, student representative, gave an impressive speech to recall how he and classmates struggled among work, study and family lives in the program. He shared his joys and pains with the audience and he appreciated the connections with other students in the program.

The 24 graduates of the program took part in the graduation ceremony held by McGill University in Hangzhou. The Graduation Ceremony of Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University will be held in Canada on June 1st this year. Prof. ZHOU Weihua, Associate dean of SOM, Prof. SHOU Yongyi, Co-director of GMSCM on ZJU side, Prof. LI Shanling, Co-director of GMSCM on McGill side, Prof. Saibal Ray, Academic Director, Retail Initiative, Prof. Vincent Thomson, Professor of GMSCM Program, Mr.MA Shuqun, the director of admission in the region of Greater China for McGill University under GMSCM program, and graduates and their relatives all were present at the graduation ceremony.

The 2018 Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management Forum – Supply Chain Innovation, virtual manufacturing and collaborative design driven by AI, which was hosted by the School of Management of Zhejiang University and the Desautels Faculty of Management of McGill University as well as supported by the Zhejiang University MBA Program Office and the Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management (GMSCM) Program, was successfully held at Zhejiang University. The summit drew a lot of attention from Universities, institutions, and professional staff.

GMSCM visit to COMAC, April 27, 2018April 27, 2018 - Visit to COMAC

GMSCM students visited China commercial Airplane company and also see the final assembly of ARJ 27 airplane which is the first model of commercial airplane with 70 seats. Mr. WEN, Geng Qiang, the director of supply chain management department of COMAC also introduced the vision and business plan of COMAC and the management challenges to overseas suppliers with strong negotiation power in the current new airplane industry in China. Two cases studies were also offered to GMSCM students.
